Effective substances based on somatostatin receptors
Somatostatin is a hormone with 14 amino acids that is secreted into the digestive system and the central nervous system. It has a broad range of applications to inhibit biologic activities with a short biological half-life of two minutes. Therefore, numerous analogues have been synthesized which a greater effect and a longer half-life have compared to somatostatin. Examples of such analogues include the Dotatate Acetate, HYNICTOC and DOTATOC.
Somatostatin receptor imaging using SPECT and PET has become a powerful tool in the imaging of neuroendocrine tumors.
